About Vulcans Handball Club
Vulcans Handball Club is a community sports club providing adult and youth handball for Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex.
We train weekly at each of our two bases – Chichester (serving the South Coast, including Portsmouth and Bognor Regis), and Haslemere (serving Surrey and north Hampshire, including Guildford and Woking).
Our club is open to everyone from the age of nine up. It doesn’t matter how much experience you have in the sport, our knowledgeable and highly-qualified coaches will cater for all. We offer a fully insured, friendly, welcoming, enjoyable and challenging experience for all within a fun and supportive club culture.
Alongside weekly training sessions, we provide a regular programme of competitive handball for our men’s team, including EHA regional league and cup fixtures, in addition to regular friendly matches, tournaments and even beach handball!
Youth development

We’re committed to developing the next generation of players. Junior Vulcans, our youth programme, provides high-quality coaching for nine to 16 year old boys and girls within a fun and friendly environment.
Junior Vulcans participate in England Handball Association tournaments as well as friendlies with local teams organised by the club.
Our ultimate ambition is for Junior Vulcans to graduate to adult handball once they reach 15 to 16 years of age. We work in partnership with two other leading local youth teams, Guildford Sabres and Petersfield Jags, to develop and improve our approach and provide additional playing opportunities for our young players.
Through this partnership, the Vulcans’ men’s team will provide a pathway into adult handball for players from all three youth teams. Our Youth Liaison Officer works closely with Guildford Sabres and Petersfield Jags to support junior players’ in their journey into adult handball.
Our history, our future
Vulcans Handball Club was formed in 2024 by the merger of Guildford Sabres (men’s team) and Chichester Vulcans. Founded in 2017 and 2018 respectively, both clubs had established strong foundations for handball in their areas.
However, both clubs had ambitions to grow further, and in particular to increase their focus on developing young players. The clubs had strong links with each other having previously operated a joint women’s team. In 2023 they began discussing whether their ambitions could be best realised by merging.
Vulcans Handball Club stands for and upholds a number of important club values: teamwork, performance, enjoyment, hard work, commitment, equality, integrity, opportunity, support and fun. We expect all members, parents, and volunteers to uphold and respect these values.
